Update

Hey everybody! It's been a bit, and I've got some important updates.

I just got my first job. It's part-time, but I'm not sure what my availability is going to look like anymore.

I've also been struggling with motivation. For most of this year, nearly everything in my life has revolved around activism. Thanks to a several-months-long hyperfixation on politics and political action, I had all-encompassing motivation to put events together. And when that eventually started to fade this summer, when organizing got more stressful than exciting? I had a ton of anxiety to keep me going. Unfortunately, that's a slippery slope to burnout. I really, really burned out. So now I have to deal with that burnout, while learning how to motivate myself in a healthy, sustainable way. I... haven't figured it out yet.

I want to run more protests (and finally organize that donation drive) but, between my new job and motivational struggles, I'm not sure how well I can do that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going anywhere and I'd love to help organize. If someone else wants to run something, I'll help as best I can. But I can't necessarily be the main host anymore. At least, not until I get my own stuff sorted first.

Thanks for understanding! Hope to talk to everybody soon!

Welcome!

who am i?

Hi! I'm Alexander! I'm 18, born and raised in Jackson, Michigan, and use any/all pronouns!

I organize activist events in the city of Jackson, on the behalf of the community. My first event was back in March -- an empty chair town hall for Tim Walberg, right across from his downtown Jackson office -- and I've only improved from there. As of writing, I've hosted a handful of protests both big and small! The biggest of those protests thus far being for the No Kings 2 national day of action in October. Over 650 people attended!

Currently, I'm part of an informal volunteer network -- Jackson Activists. We pool our time, energy, effort, resources, and skills into running activist events. Those volunteers have made all of this possible, and I'm ecstatic to have a name to credit them by. I still mainly organize, but I've been taking a break to step up in other ways (like volunteering with the Black Food Soverignty Coalition to deliver food to those that can't get to pantries).

NOTE: Our events are organized for the community, by the community. The JCDC helps with funding and permits, but activism is nonpartisan and so am I.

what're we doing here?

I believe that every single person living in this country has a right to live happily, healthily, comfortably, and without fear. But that isn't how things are in the U.S. right now. Every time I check the news I find out that more essential services are being cut, more rights are being stripped away from the people, and more oppression is being thrust on us all. What happened to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"? We're barely living, let alone liberated and happy!

All over the nation, we're seeing more and more people wanting to do something, anything, about what they're seeing happen. In times like these it is vital that we stand together and show the people in power that we won't just sit there and take it!

So, what are we doing? We're organizing events. We're telling all of our friends, family, neighbors, EVERYONE about what's going on. We're gathering in the parks, on the overpasses, on the sidewalks. We're reminding everyone that true power is found in the people -- in us!
